Meet The Team: Interview with Martin Slovík

Welcome on board to Martin

Happy reading!

Could you start by explaining how you ended up at craftworks?

I was applying for jobs in Vienna and liked the communication and craftworks values during the hiring process. My initial plan was to move to Vienna after my studies but I decided to do it now.

What did you do before craftworks?

I'm still studying software engineering for my masters and I was an intern at RedHat Enterprise Application Platform.

Could you describe craftworks in 3 words?

flat hierarchies, great processes, great culture

How do you keep developing your professional skills?

The one thing is that I still study and the other is that I'm very interested in the topics. I'm a member of the JUG (Java User Group). I'm just interested in software architecture in general and during my studies, I didn't necessarily want to find a simple solution but to learn from it.

Could you tell us more about yourself? For example: what are your hobbies and where do you like to spend your time most?

My hobbies are sports. I like floorball, soccer or ice hockey. Other than that, I like reading and I watch chess analysis videos. I also love going on walks with my dogs.

Which book would you recommend reading and why?

“Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari. I would recommend reading this book to everyone who likes history and geography. I think it's super interesting how the author describes how humanity evolved over the years.

Can you give any advice to students on how to combine studies and work?

You have to work hard, don't sleep and cancel your weekend plans.

Who or what has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

I would say my parents and my girlfriend, although they don't work in software engineering. I think they are hard-working and they always support me.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

active, organised and ambitious

What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important to you?

I'm learning German and it's important to me because I only speak English as a second language. I recently moved here and would like to be able to communicate in the native language.

3 short questions:

Office or remote?

Hybrid.

Tell me one place you always wanted to travel to?

Tuscany, Italy

What's your favorite meal?

I actually eat everything.

Thank you, Martin!
