What about your work do you enjoy the most?

The interesting challenges that come with each new project. Also, my friendly colleagues and the adequate help that you’ll receive should you face any problems within a project. Not to mention the awesome lunches.

Which advice could you give someone who wants to start working in your field?

Look at what the people around you do, how they solve problems and what tools they use. Never stop practicing and exploring new technologies.

How do you go about continuing to develop your professional skills and knowledge?

I’m comfortable with the current technologies at the moment, so I love reading nice synthesized articles about what is good and what is bad practise. Usually, when I see something well done, I start learning it immediately. But for now I mainly practice making my code as readable as possible and the code structure as good as the time allows.

Which book would you recommend reading and why?

For the software engineers out there: ‘Clean Code’ by Robert Martin. This is a great book for programming beginners who are starting to get confident in what they’re doing, as well as for the more experienced ones. It clearly answers most of the questions which usually arise at some point for every programmer. The author writes about what he and his colleagues observed to be important in the practical part of software engineering and what can be done to improve the process of creating software.

Apart from work, how do you spend your free time?

As I moved into a new place recently, I’ve been busy making it a cozy place to live. Alongside work, I’m currently a Master student at TU Wien as well, which means my free time is basically reduced to a minimum. However, I love to go snowboarding during the winter, read new tech books and articles, or chill outdoors with friends when the weather is good.

Can you give any advice to students on how to combine studies and work?

Both, the informatics master studies and my job at craftworks request the same knowledge. This is rather practical since my work contributes to my studying and vice versa. With time management being up to me, my personal approach was to do the hardest and most time-consuming subjects first before I delved into my work-related tasks.

What does your typical day at craftworks look like?

I arrive at the office around 8:30am – 9am. I go to my desk, set up everything for work and have a look at what needs to be done today. Then I’ll make a nice, big cup of coffee and get working. To be honest, my day usually consists of my most favorite things: coding, coffee, table football and some nice DnB blasting from my headphones.
