Meet The Team: Interview with Simon Gavris

This week we’re chatting to our Software Engineer Simon Gavris who joined our team in the summer. By the way Simon is studying Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the TU Wien. We hope you’ll enjoy the interview!

Could you start by explaining how you ended up at craftworks?

I was looking for new challenges and a company where I could further expand my horizon. craftworks really stood out for all the innovativity and dynamic they are bringing and the field they are working in. So naturally I was very happy to be able to call myself a part of the team.

What were you doing before craftworks?

Before craftworks I was working as a web developer focusing mainly on the Backend working with slightly different technologies.

Could you describe craftworks in 3 words?

innovative, ambitious and passionate.

What advice would you give someone who’s just starting out in your field?

Look at the people around you and try to learn as much as possible from them. Try to read and watch as much as possible and try to understand how people solved similar problems. Don’t get frustrated by problems you may not solve on the first, second or even thirtieth try.

What about your work do you like the most?

Being surrounded by motivated people and the friendly, open and motivating environment that comes with all the interesting challenges.

What does your typical day at craftworks look like?

I usually arrive at 9:00 a.m. and the first thing I do is to make myself an espresso. Then after greeting everyone who arrived before me and quickly checking my emails I continue the work from the day before.

How do you go about continuing to develop your professional skills and knowledge?

Reddit and other Boards that offer the community the possibility to discuss. I also like to bounce ideas and news of coworkers and friends in my field of work. Whenever there is a deeper topic I’m about to dive in, I like to take a weekend to really get to know it.

3 short questions:

Mac or PC?

PC (Linux) – It offers the perfect environment for what I’m doing.

Office or remote?

Office. Especially at craftworks where we have the silence if needed but also the occasional football match to clear the head. We also have very good espresso.

Which music is playing on your player right now?

The Voidz – Leave It In My Dreams

Thank you Simon!
